Reforms in high school graduation exam and university entrance examinations

• From 2002-2014: two national examinations, one from high school graduation and the other for university entrance

• From 2015 up to now: the two national examinations are combined into one for two purposes

Curriculum innovation and textbook change

- Innovate the school curriculum with emphasis on STEM education, global citizenship, foreign language, 21 st century skills.

- Piloting and changing the new series of textbooks

In December 2018, the new curriculum from K-12 education was released for implementing from 2019

Reforms in foreign language education: The National Foreign Languages Project for 2008 – 2020 and amended to 2025

CURRENT OBJECTIVES RELATED TO TEACHER TRAINING

• National Project approved by the Prime Minister dated April 24, 2016 about Training teachers and educational administrators during 2016-2020 and up to 2025.

• The project objectives to 2020:

• 100% university instructors and educational managers, school teachers meet the professional standards

• 100% university instructors and educational managers, school teachers can improve teaching ability, managing ability, foreign language and ICT

• 100% school teachers and managers meet the professional standards and being able to conduct self training at all time.

CHALLENGES FOR TEACHER TRAINING DEVELOPMENT

Training curriculum to meet the requirements for educational quality and educational reforms

Lack of updated training materials and training facilities

Time availability of teachers to attend training, especially for in- service teacher training

Heavy load of teaching and teaching related responsibilities

Teachers’ lack of digital skills to take advantage of digitals training materials and resources

Teacher training assessment and performance recognition

SOME SOLUTIONS FOR TEACHER TRAINING DEVELOPMENT

• Changing the curriculum for teacher training, serving the needs for educational reforms of the country

• Changing the ways to assess teachers’ achievement in teacher training

• Having the output standards, meeting the demands for teachers’ ability as well as morality

• Building the criteria to evaluate the profession ability of students teachers and school teachers

• Sharing best practices, experience, among teachers

• Building core teachers who are able to mentor new teachers

• Develop learning materials and resources including online resources for self learning/

training.

Collaborate with international organizations in teacher training

Organize international forums, conferences to provide more opportunities from teachers training institutions and teachers themselves to develop

Encourage socialization in teacher training.
