中国語色彩語の象徴化 145
The sense of color belonging to a specific people is easily affected by culture and living environment. Therefore there is a certain commonality implied specific sense of color for the same race and both an image and a symbol to be born thereby. Of course, such a sense and its cultural implication change with the development of that culture. However it is difficult for such a sense and corresponding feelings to readily get away from these five natural elements theory. This is because the five natural elements, as well as color, are traditionally of fundamental importance in China in particular.
Therefore, the symbolic characteristics that color words have in the depths of Chinese consciousness are deeply rooted. One can strongly feel their symbolic character. This paper will consider the Chinese historic background and symbolic implication of color vocabulary in terms of Chinese language and culture.
