The paper collected here, excepting Prof. Ishimoto's and Prof. Tanaka's, were delivered at '84 Matsuyama Worksho p on Formal Grammar (The 4th Japanese-Korean Joint Workshop), held at Matsuyama University, Matsuyama, Japan on December 17-19, 1984.

The workshop focused on the formal treatment of various grammatical problems. Particularl y , under the framework of either Montague Grammar or GPSG, the workshop attempted to show how the formal mechanisms could be used and expanded in accounting for the complicated semantic and pragmatic aspects of natural languages. The panel on the role of logical grammar in GPSG was the highlight of this workshop. Papers from the panel (by Gunji, Park, and Pullum) will be found among the papers from the regular
