string® was born in 1949. that year, sweden’s biggest publishing house, bonniers, arranged a
competition. the idea was simple: if only people could find a good looking, affordable bookcase that was easy to mount, they would buy it. and once they had that bookcase, they would almost certainly want to buy more books. the winner of the competition would have to come up with a design that offered the ideal combination of extraordinary function and a distinctly modern look.
this was exactly the design of string® – the entry submitted by nils and kajsa strinning. of course
neither the designers nor the jury could have ever imagined that the winning bookcase would still be loved and sought after 70 years later. over the years the basic design of string® hasn’t changed at
all, though new functions, materials and colours have been introduced time and time again. thousands of new combinations are possible. no one has ever tried them all. so, let’s go. let’s create!

the shelves seem to hover, giving the whole shelving unit an extra light appearance. string® plex is
