Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the present situation of English teaching in senior high schools in Aichi prefec-ture, clarify the problems English teachers have had since the 2010 reform of the Course of Study, and suggest that they should take in and use in their classrooms the perspectives of English linguistics. They had learned the introduc-tion of English linguistics at their university before they became teachers, but they haven't noticed how the knowledge of English linguistics is very helpful in teaching English. This lack of the linguistic perspectives makes them decrease the effect of a good teaching practice. The ideas that this paper suggests should encourage teachers to implement enjoy-able and effective lessons in their classroom settings.
