Recently, many studies on the application of CFRP plates to repair corroded steel members have been reported. However, there is no widely accepted design method for CFRP plate bonding repair of corroded steel members. To determine the optimal thickness and length of bonded CFRP plates in the repair design, stress distributions in the CFRP bonded steel plate with a partial loss of cross-sectional area are analytically examined in this study. Finally, design formulas for the length and the thickness of CFRP plates to reduce stress in the steel plate to the required stress level are given.
