A: Mom, what does dictionary mean?

B: A dictionary is a book where you can find meanings of words.

A: Oh, that’s interesting!

B: You can use it when you don’t know the meaning of a word. A: お母さん、辞書って何? B: 辞書は、言葉の意味を調べる本のことよ。 A: わー、すごく面白そう! B: 言葉の意味を知らない時に辞書を使うの。

A: Hi, Nick. Can I ask you something? B: Sure, Mike.

A: What does “good afternoon” mean?

B: “Good afternoon” is an expression used to greet someone between noon and 6 PM.

A: こんにちは、ニック。ちょっと聞いてもいい? B: マイク、どうしたの?

A: “Good afternoon” って、何て意味?

B: “Good afternoon” は、お昼から午後 6 時まで使うあいさつだよ。

■ Objective : To provide reading/pronunciation practice for the student. ■ Required Time : 3-5 minutes

■ Desired Action:

・Practice on reading dialogs.

· Tutor should read the dialogs frst so that the student will hear how to pronounce the words. ・Assign roles. (e.g. Tutor will read A and student will read B.)

・Exchange roles with the student if student reads fast. ・Correct student's pronunciation errors.

■ Action to Avoid:

· Do not exchange roles with the student if the student is having a diffcult time reading the dialogs.

■ Lesson Script:

EXERCISE 2 LET'S PRACTICE!

In this exercise we will read the dialogs together. Kaiwa o yomimashou.

・Start by reading the dialog per sentence.

-Let’s start with dialog 2-A. Please repeat after me. Kaiwa 2 no A o Kurikaeshitekudasai.

・Then let your student read A while you read B.

- Now you will read A and I will read B. Anata wa A o yonde kudasai, Watashi wa B o yomimasu.

・Continue with 2-B. Start by reading the dialog per sentence.

- Let’s read dialog 2-B. Please repeat after me. Kaiwa 2 no B o Kurikaeshitekudasai.

・Then let your student read B while you read A.

- I will read A and you will read B. Watashi wa A o yomimasu, anata wa B o yonde kudasai.

* You can also say “Can I ask you something?” to get the attention of the speaker.

3 - C: How should I answer it?(どう答えるのでしょうか?)

B: Before 6 PM, you can say “good afternoon.” A: Okay. And what does “good night” mean? B: You use this with family and friends before
