Based on an analysis of their images of good Japanese iRstructors

Views of language teaching held by language instructors are refiected in their teaching, as well as underlie their own standards for seif−assessment when evaluating their own teaching. ln this seRse, it is important for instructors to continue to objectively fonnulate and monitor their own views of language teach.ing. lrhis study investigates images of good Japanese instructors, views of language teaching and standards underlying self−assessment held by Japanese iaRguage instructors, based on the results of a survey administered to 1 19 Japanese lang age instructors. A factor analysis yielded five factors: classroom techniques, suppert of learfiers, related knowledge,
f motivation for classreom teaching, and fknowledge directly connected to classroom teachiRg. These factors are considered to forrn the foundation for images of good Japanese instructors held by Japanese language・instructors and nderlie the standards for self−assessment of the instructors own teaching.
