of the

Sanslcrit

mss. now

kept

at Ryukoku

University

Library

are _part of this

Keju-kai

collection which was transferred

from

the

Otani

family

who had

inherited

the collection.

seventy or eighty original

manuscripts from India around 1915/19162). As

as we can

judge

from

the _published

on the

Otani

Expedition,none of the so-called First

the name of

King

Sri-Anandadeva

(1147-1167

on the throne) of

Malla

dynasty

mentioned there allows us to estimate

it

to the middle oi

12th

century.

Paleographieal

evidence also supports this

date.

At _presenttotallythirty-eight

Sufehavati-ttytiha

mss. are

known

to us, and all of them are Nepalese

niss,

Thanks to the

laborious

work

done

by

Dr.

Fujita,

all these mss. are now available as transliterated _textsB). Among them, our ms. is

by

far

the oldest

(the

seeond oldest

being

a seventeenth century one) and the best one with very few errors or _portions that are missing. It could

be

described

as thel original text of

(at

least

one recension ef)

at this･stage. Itistrue that

the

National Archives in Kathrnandu

keeps

in itspossessionone ms. which is

dated Nepal Sarpvat 273

(=1152153

C.E.) and could

be

regarded as

belonging

to the

same

line

as our ms4). But itis

less

valuable than ,ours

because

itisincomplete

(only

fols

of the original 40 are extant) and a

damaged

ms. with a number of errors and

mlsslng _portlons.

Dr,

Ashikaga

published a critical edition of

Sukhawaii-wyitha

which

is

based mainly

on eur ms.

in

19655).

Since

then this edition, together with the very appropriate and

informativecorrections added to it

by

Dr,

Fujita,

has

served as the

basis

of aeademie

research on this text

Recently

ancient manuscripts excavated

from

the

Bamiyan

area inAfghanisthan

have

been

publishedand have attracted the attention of the academic world. Among this collection, which isnamed Scheyen

Collection

after

its

present possessor,three

fra'gmental

Ieavesof this satra in Brahml scripts

dating

back

to 6th17th century are reported.

According tothe

description

_given

by

Profs.

Harrison!HartmanlMatsuda,

this

`CSukhdvati-vyaha" apparently

deviates

from

any

known

versions of t6issatra, including'both'Sanskrit and

Chinese

ones6). This _popular stttra'seems to

have

been

circulated in unexpectedly

diversified

ways.

Further

discoveries

may well

be

expected to shed new

genre of mahd-kdvya or sargha-bandha, Indianornate poetry comprising many sarga or

cantos, composed

Kagmira poet

(A.D.9c.).

sixty y･ears ago, Pref.Shankar of Government Col'lege,Lahore, published this text 'with a

detailed

Thiseditio

princaps was,

howevef,

far

from

satisfactory

due

tothe poor

quality of the mss. available to him on which it was

based,

so ･that not much attention

had

been

paid to it. It was after almost a half century that painstakingresearch done

by

Prof,Hahn of

Marburg

University

revived this llnfortunate text from oblivion and thus

enabled us to rightly appreeiate this manuscript ineur collection8>.

）の _{写 本}を， 可能 な限リマ _{イ ク} ロ フ _ィル ム に複製して_{収 集}し_，校合するこ と を 目的とする プ ロ _ジ ェ ク トに携わ っ てきた。 現 在まで に， 大 部 分の写 本の マ イ ク ロ フ ィル ム を 入手しえ た段 階であり，入手したフ ィ ル ム もい ま だ整理 されるに は至っ てい ない 。 し か し，開 始して か らかな り年 月が経 過したこ とも あるの で_{， 本稿}では一応の経 過 報 告をする と と もに，一部資 料に_？い て， 若干の 考 察を加 えて， 今 後の資 料 整 理の一助 としたい 。

〕は高 楠順次 郎が1913年に ネパ ー_{ル で収集し た写本} コ レ クシ ョ ン に属 する。〔15〕は河口 慧 海が1913年か ら工5年まで に ネパ ール とチベ ヅ トで収 集し た コ レ ク シ ョ ンの 一部で ある 11） 。 な お，〔15 〕は不完本 とい っ て も， AKV 第 1 章 （界 品 ）の みで完 結した もの で，奥書も備え て い る。 〔16〕・〔17〕 京 都 大 学図書 館 　2点とも榊 亮三 郎が1910年に カ ト_ゥマ ソ ドゥで収集した コ _レ ク シ _ョ ンに属 する12）_。 　以上 が現 在まで に入手し え た写 本 複 製である。未入手の 写 本は，上述の NA の

の 1点 も含め，そ れ らの 入手を待っ て，あ らた め て考 察し たい _。

　

さて，今回 入手し た_{写 本複製}は，ほ とんど が ネパ ー_{ル 系の写本であ る} 。 ネパ ー_{ル に} 保 存され て いたサ ン ス ク リ _ッ ト_{原 典}が， 近 代学者の 目セこ触れ る ようになっ たの は， 古 くは19世紀半ばの

こ とで _あり・東イ ン ド_{会 社 社 員}だ っ た Brian　Houghton 　

Hodgson

の ネパ ール_{写 本 収 集}を皮 切・

りに，統治国であ っ た イギ リス の 学 者た ちを中心に収 集 整理 されてい た。 そ して 特に19 世紀末

か ら20世紀初 頭に かけて は1 写 本の入手 ・整理， さ らに校 訂出版などが相 次 ぎ，ヨ ーロ ッ パ と

日本に原 典 研 究の嵐が吹き荒れた時 代であっ た15）。

　その中で，　『倶 舎論 』 とい う文 献は，Vasubandhu の 思 想を探る 上で不可 欠の もの とし て ヨ

ーロ _ッ パ の 学 者に注目 さ れ，1912年に， Th ．

倶 舎 論 』 研 究 計 画が な された16） 。 これは ，AKV の 校 訂 本 出版お よ び翻 訳研究を軸と し た もの であっ た。 今回収 集した写 本の 一 部に は， こ の時 代の 事情を肌に感じ させ るもの ．_があ る。 これに つ い て は，先に別稿で概 要を発 表し た こ とであり17） ， 重 複 する部 分があるの だが， こ こ で は原 典 研 究 史 的な視 点か ら，改め て詳しく考 察してみ よ う。 　 2 ．

　Poussi・n はその AKK _{断 片}につ い て は rL6vi の_{好 意}に よ りネバ ール_{写 本}の_{断 片}を付 す」 と だ け述べ て， 詳しい 出 自を明か し て お らず 23） ， 当の LEvi も， こ の写本につ い て他で報 告し た 形 跡は見い だせ ない 。_彼は1897年 以 来， 3・度にわた っ て ネパ ール に入 り， サ ン ス ク リ ． ッ ト写 本 を調 査 ・収 集した とい わ れる。 その成果は，周．知の よう な 主 とし て唯識 関 係の校 訂 本と なっ て 結 実 する ことになる。 L6vi がア ビダル マ 関 係の研 究に関わっ たの は， 上述の 『倶 舎 論』．研 究 の国際 的プロ ジ ェ ク トの 一_環 とし て， Stcherbatsky と共 著で AKV 第1章の校 訂を担 当した こ と24）の みで ある。 そ の後， AKV の校 訂は荻 原に ，．フ ラ ソス 語 訳ば Poussin に託さ れた。 おそ ら く L6vi は， ネパ ール で 発 見した 〔3〕の 写本の 発 表の場 と して，　Poussin の大 著を借 り たの で あろ う。 　 　 　 （41 ）
