Volunteer Based Georeferencing of Aerial Photographs Related to the Great East Japan Earthquake Role of the OSGeo.JP Community

Abstract: This paper reported that volunteer based georeferencing of the aerial photographs related to the Great East Japan Earthquake. The georeferencing was conducted by the community members of OSGeo.JP and georeferenced aerial photographs were released not only GIS data but also WMS/TMS and web/local applications. This cooperation is an advanced case of the Volunteered Geographic Information. FOSS4G and the OSGeo.JP community played a significant role in the collaborations.
Hereafter, establishing effective collaborations among various communities will be the key for successful disaster relief supports.
