講義目的及び到達目標 This course is designed to help students prepare for TOEFL test (primarily focusing on the TOEFL Internet-based Test [iBT]). Its main objective is to help students feel confid ent and well-prepared when taking TOEFL test, which is widely used by foreign univers ities as an evaluation criterion of a prospective student's English fluency in the acade mic context. In this Spring class, students will familiarize themselves with various types of tasks concerning reading, listening, writing, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary plac ing special emphasis on strategies to deal with the TOEFL iBT. This course provides stu dents with an opportunity to take TOEFL trial test of all four sections during the class hours. Furthermore, the material covered in class will help them improve their English communication for use in academic and professional setting. The students are expecte d to know their learning styles and gain new strategies effective to generate improved scores in TOEFL.
Some of the course objectives are as follows:
(1) To become familiarized with the format of the TOEFL iBT
(2) To gain TOEFL test-taking skills and strategies in each section of the test (3) To improve overall English skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking (4) To learn how to read quickly and take notes effectively
(5) To cultivate routines for self-study in order to reach at the target score in the test
講義内容・授業計画 This course is focused on introducing TOEFL test taking strategies (e.g., reading, listeni ng, speaking, writing, and note-taking strategies) and practicing the test by taking TOE FL practice tests.

成績評価の基準・方法 Students will be evaluated based on attendance and participation in class (50%) and th eir assignments, activities, and projects (50%).
履修上の注意・履修要件 Students are expected to participate actively in this class, and they should be intereste d in or planning to take TOEFL.
