’ln currentanalysisfor earthquake-reSistant design,there are two basic appTOaChes.Oneis the StreSS-StrainanalysISandtheotheristheconventionalpseudo-Staticanalysis.Acompleteprogressive偽.i)ure analys)SOfstressandstraininasoilmechanicsproblemuslngthestress-Strainapproachistoocomplicated fbrpracticalapplication.Ontheotherhand,tlleCOnVentionalpseudo-StaticapproachisqulteCrudetopredict thebehaviorofeadlStruCttueS岬derseismicloadjngconditions.Inthisapproach,thesame,aCCelerationis appliedtoeverypartofthestruCtureandistreatedasinertiaforcesactlngPermanentlyonthes打ucture.The StabilityoftheearthstruCtureisevaluatedintermsofsafetyfactor.Duringtheearthquake,tbesaftty飴ctor maydropbelowunltyanumberoftimeswhichwillillducesome・relativedisplacements,butnotcausethe COllapse ofthestruCture.Thus,eValuatingstabihtyofthe earth s机ICtureintermsofsafbtyfactorunder dynamicloadinglSinadequate,andattentionshouldbepajdtoearthqual(e-induceddisplacements.Toavoid thecomp)icatjonofthestress-Strain’approach,andtheimadequacyoftheconventionalpseudo-StaticanalysIS, itisdesiral)1etodevelophereinanefftctivemetllOdfortheearthquake-reSistantdesignofea11hstruCtureS. Chapter4presentsmotionanalys)SprOblemsofslopes,fbundations,andretainlngStruCtureSunder SeismicloadjれgS.The motion offoundations under externalexcitationsandtheinvestlgation onJdeep 蝕IureofretainlngStruCtureSarealsodescribed.Theconsiderationofdilatancyangleandtheuseofpeak andresidualvaluesofsoilstrengthinca)cu)ationarediscussed.TherelationshipbetweenHmitequi]ibrium andupperboundformulationsinmotionanalysISispolntedout.Comparisonsofproposedmethodwith Newmark-smethoda11dMononobe-Okabelllethodarefiguredout. InChapter5,theexperimentalresearchtoconnrmthevalidjtyofproposedmethodispresented.The high-SPeedandlargかdisplacementsheartestisperfbrmedtoinvestigatedynamicshearStrengthsofsandy SOjls.Anumberofexperimentsonmode)sofslopes,fbundatioTIS,andretainlngWallsareconducted’and COl叩aredwiththeoreticalanalyses.
