The Latin America Studies (L.A.S.) series aim at disseminating research results by the Area Studies Department II of the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO). This report is an outcome of a joint research “Integration of rural economy into market through the forced migration: Case studies in Ayacucho, Peru” that was carried out in Lima, Peru, during the fiscal year 2002. The research group consists of three researchers: Tatsuya Shimizu of IDE-JETRO and visiting researcher at Research Center in the Pacific University (Centro de Investigación, Universidad del Pacífico: CIUP); Alfredo Valencia, researcher at the Center of Population Promotion and Development (Centro de Promoción y Desarrollo Poblacional: CEPRODEP); and Jefrey Gamarra, Director of the Institute of Research and Promotion for Development and Peace (Instituto de Investigación y Promoción para el Desarrollo y Paz: IPAZ) and Professor of the University of San Cristóbal de Huamanga (UNSCH) in Ayacucho.

El objeto de la Serie de Estudios sobre América Latina es diseminar los resultados de las investigaciones realizadas por el Departamento de Estudios de Área II del Instituto de Economías en Desarrollo de la Organización Oficial del Japón para el Comercio Exterior (IDE-JETRO). Este informe es producto del proyecto de investigación “El desplazamiento y la integración de la economía rural al mercado: los casos de Ayacucho, Perú”, realizado en Lima, Perú, por tres investigadores: Tatsuya Shimizu, de IDE-JETRO e investigador visitante del Centro de Investigación de la Universidad del Pacífico (CIUP); Alfredo Valencia, investigador del Centro de Promoción y Desarrollo Poblacional (CEPRODEP), y Jefrey Gamarra, director del Instituto de Investigación y Promoción para el Desarrollo y Paz (IPAZ) y Profesor de la Universidad San Cristóbal de Huamanga (UNSCH) en Ayacucho.
