Thel6zenHora(医王山植物群)inthel6zenformation(医王山累層)isexposed ontheNorthernpartoftheKanazawaCity,CentralHonShuinJapan.

ThisflorawasdiscoveredbyN.NAKANIsHI(中西信弘),amemberofKanazawa University,whenhestudiedonthegeologicalsurveyatthepiedmentofMt・I6zen (医王山),whichrisesonthenorthofKanazawaCity(石川県金沢市)andhasan

altitudeof939m.

Theoccurrenceofthemacroplantfossilsofthel6zenformationisanew evidenceoftheHokurikuMioceneHora,andinthisfioraarenotfoundsomany fossilspeciesasweexpectfromtheoccurrenceofthematerials,alsothereare threespecies,namely""c"''〃"α蜘加,M6zc"""ssp.and"9"jdα"6αγ〃"os"ica・

Notonakajima,NoroshiandKuragatakefioralzone.Especially,Irecognizeda remarkablediferencebetweenKuragatakeandtheothertwoyoungerfloralzones.

IconsideredthatthisdiHerencecomesfromtheexistenceofaclimaticchangein the@GD"z伽a−tybe''fiora.

Now,thel6zenphytozonehasafewcompositionalelements,soIconsidered thatitcannotbecomparedwiththeothertwoyoungerHoralzones・However, accordingtothetable‑2,Iaminterestedinthefactthattheserrated‑margin evergreentreescouldnotbefoundmtheKuragatakefioralzone.Andlwouldguess thattheabovementionedevidenceshowsnootherthanthetropicalcondition.

Inevidenceofthis,IgiveexamplesoftwoPaノwzo"JO"specieswhichhadbeen collectedfromtheterracedepositsintheSai‑kawa(犀川)andAsanogawa(浅野川)

riversrunningthroughtheKanazawaCity.ThesespeciesareP. αed"eOGuRA (1952:pp.223‑230)atKenroku‑en(兼六園)andR"zZgzze"seOGuRA(1955:pp.

85‑87)atAsanogawa,andthesehadbeendescribedasthenewspeciesbyDr.Y.

OGuRA.Andmore,atrunk(thesamesizeastheKenroku‑enspecimen)ofR 沈αedtzewasfoundfromtheterracedepositsatFukuro‑machi,KanazawaCity(金沢 市袋町)inl960(thisarticlehasbeenkeptinpersonalcustody,atFukuro‑machi).

Theoccurrencesofafewpalmaeantrunksshouldbeyieldedinthel6zenGroup, whichrangedfromthelowerMiocenetothemiddleMioceneinageanddistributed fromthemid‑streamtotheupperreachesofthetworivers(Sai‑kawaand Asanogawa).

Thoughonlyonespecimenisregisteredathand,Iamconvincedthatthis materialcouldbecomparedwiththeM"gひα"αoftheMiocenespeciesandthe livingspeciesofMノα加"ic".

Inotedthatthemorphologicalchangeofleafwassusceptibletoinfluencesfrom thesupplyofthewater.Especially,thewatersupPlyhasagreatinfluenceonthe leavesofZ,j9"〃α"、伽γ允γ加0sα"a(1966:pp.14‑15).

Ontheassumptionthatthel6zen"9"〃α加加γislinsize,theNotonakajima speciess伽wsO.8andtheTorigo6speciesgivesmeasureofl.5.Thehabitatofthe Notonakajimafloraisconsideredtobeanaridsoilconditionasthemountainous lands,butthelatterTorigo6Horagrowsattheriver‑sideormarsh‑sidewhichhad adenseT"""species.

Comparedwiththelivmgspeciesmthewitheredordryleaves,theTorigo6 specimensshowsthesamesize.Sothel6zensizeisrecognizedthatitwasgrown atpiedmontregion,byreasonthatitisamediatesizebetweentheNotonakajima andtheTorigo6.

OntheMfzc"""ssp.,itresemblesverycloselythelivingspeciesofJapan, whichisfoundinthemountainouslandinthesubtropicalregioninAsia.

ThreesiliceoustrunksoftwoP"ノ"@oZyJo"specieshasbeenascertamedtobein
