commercial interests. In the process, the institutions of Japan have embarked on the investigation of the Korean peninsula. Among them, in particular, the activities of the Tokyo Imperial University were noteworthy. This paper attempts to focus on the investigation of the Cultural Assets of Korea by Tokyo Imperial University in 1900 and 1901 when Korea was not incorporated into the control of the Japanese colonial power yet.
Yagi Sozaburo( , 1866-1942), a tokyo imperial university trained anthropologi- cally archaeologically, was sent to Korea in 1900 by Tokyo Imperial University. At that time, in Japan Anthropology and Archaeology as an academic was not independent yet. In addition, in Korea there did not exist words, such as kokuho( ) and homotu( ) .
Therefore, in this paper, I explore such issues as following questions: how Yagi was sent to Korea by Tokyo Imperial University: what was the purpose of investigation: how investigated Cultural Assets of Korea was recorded by him: and how it was visualized by the Japanese Imperium, also, how it began to be imaged within that historical context.
