This is a report on an intensive English class organized and administered by me for students of Hokkaido Bunkyo University during the spring and summer vacations of 2003-04. Although the immediate goal of the class is to upgrade students’ English competence in order to pass the STEP pre-1st grade test and obtain a higher score on the TOEIC and TOEFL tests, its ultimate goal is for

the participating students to gain general self-confidence in whatever they do in the coming years. This endeavor is still in the testing process and not ready for evaluation by others yet, but may be worthy of briefly reporting here.
