Short Story

Directions: Read the following conversation with your teacher. 講師と一緒にストーリーを読んでみましょう。

Layla and Emily are best friends. They both live in the same city and they go to the same school. They are doctoral candidates. Layla works for Dr. Brown and Emily works for Dr.Green in their laboratories. They see each other every day and they often study together, too. Because they see each other every day, they talk about many things – work, their dreams, friends, family and even their

personal problems. Today, they are spending time at Layla's parents’ house.

Layla usually stays at her apartment on weekdays, and often visits her family on weekends. Layla's family knows Emily, and they like her very much. Because Emily's family lives in a different state, Emily sees them twice a year. Emily often spends time with Layla's family. Emily never feels lonely because Layla’ s family always welcomes her. Emily thinks she is so lucky to have a friend like Layla, and Layla feels the same way about Emily.
