第2章「口腔がん患者への顎補綴治療による口腔関連QoLの変化と口腔衛生 状態の変化について」では，口腔がん患者への顎補綴治療による口腔関連 QoL の変化と口腔衛生指導による口腔衛生状態の変化，それらの相互関係と影響を 及ぼす因子について検討し，以下の結果を得た．
(1) 顎義歯装着前後で口腔関連QoLは改善した．
(2) 衛生指導介入前後で口腔衛生状態は改善した．
(3) 年齢が低いほど，また，多くの OU が残存しているほど，口腔関連 QoL は 改善した．
(4) 口腔衛生状態の改善には年齢，残存歯数，咬合支持数およびOUは影響しな かった．
(5) 口腔関連QoLの変化と口腔衛生状態の変化は関連しなかった．
第 3 章「顎補綴患者への口腔衛生指導の効果 ―PCR による比較検証―」で は，我々の取り組みの効果を客観的に評価するため，口腔衛生指導介入がある顎 補綴患者（Group-1）と口腔衛生指導介入のない顎補綴患者（Group-2）の口腔衛 生状態の比較，また，ポジティブコントロールとして，顎補綴患者（Group-1・
2）と口腔衛生指導介入がある顎欠損を有しない患者（Group-3）での口腔衛生状 態を比較し，以下の結果を得た．
(1) 口腔衛生状態は，Group-3，Group-1，Group-2の順に良好であった．
(2) 3群間で年齢に有意差は認めないが，残存歯数，咬合支持数，OUにおいて，
Group-3はGroup-1・2に比較して有意に多く残存していた．
これらの研究より，顎欠損を有する患者に対する顎補綴治療は口腔関連 QoL の改善に有効であること，口腔衛生指導と口腔ケアは患者の年齢，残存歯の状

態や顎義歯の状態などによらず，口腔衛生状態を改善するのに有効であること が明らかになった．ただし，口腔衛生指導と口腔ケアを行っても顎欠損を有し ない患者と同程度までの改善はできていなかったことから，介入頻度などの工 夫が必要であることが示唆された．
