Course Description:

TOEIC test taking practice. Students will have one class of 80 minutes per week over a 15 week semester.

This course gives students intensive practice in TOEIC listening and reading. The course also focuses on vocabulary and grammar forms specific to the TOEIC as well as strategies for achieving higher scores in the TOEIC test.

In addition to working through the text Successful Keys to the TOEIC Test, (Pearson Longman), students focus on a particular part of the TOEIC test in time blocks which reflect the difficulty students usually have with the TOEIC. Accordingly, 6 weeks are assigned to the listening section and 8 weeks to the reading section. Material for additional study is taken from Tactics for TOEIC (Grant Trew, Oxford – official ETS publication). This material includes practice tests as well as considerable attention to strategies that students can use when attempting the TOEIC.

Students can access the practice tests mentioned above through Moodle, and can practice taking the various sections of the authentic TOEIC test in an online medium which allows them to check their answers. The text book audio is also available on Moodle, so students can work at their own pace through the listening activites unit by unit.

Students are expected to learn vocabulary weekly (about 30 words per week) and they do weekly quizzes at the beginning of each class.
