The p r e s e n t  p a p e r  r e p o r t s  t h e  r e s u I t s  o f  a  w i l d  b e e  s u r v e y  made i n   O b i h i r o   d u r i n g   t h e  b e e  s e a s o n s  i n   1 9 7 5  i n  o r d e r  t o   o b t a i n  some b a s i c  i n f o r r n a t i o n  o f  f a u n a l  makeup ，  phe  n o l o g y  and f l o w e r  v i s i t s  o f   t h e  l o c a l  w i l d  b e e  a s s e m b l a g e .   The s u r v e y  was r e a l i z e d  from  two d i f f e r e n t  a i m s .   Two o f  u s   (M.U. and Y . N . )   have b 田 n s e e k i n g  e H e c t i v e :  b e e  p o l l i ‑ n a t o 四 o fa l f a l f a  i n   Tokachi p r o v 国 民 and t h e   o t h e r   two  ( H . F  阻 d S . F . S . ) .  }mve b e e n   e n g a g i n g  i n  e l u c i d a t i o n  o f  t h e  w i l d  b e e  b i o f a u n i s t i c s  i n  H o k k a i d o .   As t h e  b e e ‑ a l f a l f a  p r o b ‑ lem i s   a  p a r t  s y s t e m  o f  t h e  whole b e e ‑ f l o w e r   complex i n   a g i v e n  l o c a l   e n v i r o n m e n t ，  i t s   r a t i o n a l  s o l u t i o n  n e c e s s i t a t e s  sound b a s i c  i n f o r m a t i o n  o f  t h e  l o c a l  b e e  f a u n a

N e v e r t h e l e s s ， v i r t u a l l y   no s y s t e m a t i c   s u r v e y   h a s   s o   f a r   b e e n   u n d e r t a k e n   on t h e   w i l d   b e e   f a 町 田 o f Tokachi p r o v i n c e .   Thus t h e  p e r f o r m a n c e  o f  a  p h e n o l o g i c a l  w i l d  b e e  s a m p l i n g  i n   O b i h i r o   was t h o u g h t  a s  f a v o r a b l e  f o r  b o t h  aims m e n t i o n e d .   A I t hough t h e  r e s u l t s  c a n n o t  b e  r e g a r d   e d  a s   r e p r e s e n t i n g   b i o f a u n i s t i c   s t r u c 加工 eo f   w i l d   b e e  a s s e m b l a g e   i n   Tokachi ，  t h e y  may  s e r v e  a s  a  c o r e  f o r  f u r t h e r  s t u d i e s .  

Methods 

1 .   Areas 日 『 町 ' y e d ・ Thes a m p l i n g  was made a t  t h e  campus o f  O b i h i r o  U n i v e r s i t y   and i t s   a d j a c e n t  a r e a s .   These a r e  s i 加 a t e don 5 .  5  km  s o u t h w e s t  from downtown O b i h i r o   ( 4 2 ⁰  55'N ，  1 4 3 ⁰  1 3 ' E ) ，  t h e  c a p i t a l  c i t y  o f  Tokachi p r o v i n c e " _r  A d m i n i s t r a t i v e l y ，  O b i h i r o  h a s   o c c u p i e d  6 6 7   km

i n  a r e a ，  i n c l u d i n g   a b o u t  36% c u l t i v a t e d   l a n d ，  p r i n c i p a l l y   e o n s i s t i n g   o f   v o l c a n i c  a s h e s .   The main c r o p s   a r e   v a r i o u s   b e a n s ，  g r a m i n e o u s 皿 d l e g w n i n o u s  g r a s s e s ，  s u g a r  b e e t  and p o t a t o .   The c l i m a t e  o f  O b i h i r o  i s   s u b f r i g i d ，  s n o 吋 o rs o i l   f r o z e n   p e 口 od r e a c h i n g  1 5 0  d a y s  a n n u a l l y .   The mean monthly t e m p e r a 加 r er a n g e s  from ‑9. 3 ⁰ C i n  J a n ‑ u a r y  t o   2 0 . 1  oC i n  August ，  t h e   a n n u a l  mean b e i n g  5 . 7
