SECTION 3 HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Ingestion: Not a normal route of entry.

Inhalation: No incidents of dust inhalation reported.

Eye Contact: Urea can aggravate eyes.

Skin Absorption: Urea may cause slight skin abrasions.

Skin Contact: Urea may aggravate skin.

Effects of Overdose: Urea is not considered toxic by F.D.A., can cause discomfort.

SECTION 4 FIRST AID MEASURES

Ingestion: If swallowed and the person is conscious, give a large amount of water to drink and make person vomit. Seek medical attention.

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air.

Eyes: Flush thoroughly with water. Seek medical attention if condition persists.

Skin: Wash thoroughly with soap and water.

Notes to Physician: In a fire, cyanuric acid, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide and nitrogen oxides may be generated. Short term exposure to smoke, fumes, and gases can lead to irreversible lung injury without early signs and symptoms. For health emergencies contact your local poison control center.

SECTION 5 FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Extinguishing Media: Water, sand or fine earth. Steam smothering can be used in relatively small enclosures. Material is essentially non-flammable.

Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Wear full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus. Use agents appropriate to surrounding materials to extinguish fire. Evacuate downwind if large quantities are involved in fire.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Urea may decompose to cyanuric acid, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, and nitrogen oxides.

SECTION 6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Environmental Precautions: Prevent large quantities from contact with vegetation or waterways. Keep animals away from large spills.

Steps to be taken in case material is released or spilled:

Polyurethane coated urea is a plant food. However, large spills could possibly kill vegetation or cause illness in animals. Contamination of waterways may cause fish kills.

SECTION 7 HANDLING AND STORAGE

Precautions to be taken in handling and storing:

Guard against dust accumulation. Keep dry. Wet urea can cause slippery conditions.

SECTION 8 EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

Ventilation Protection: Provide local or general ventilation to keep dust below OSHA nuisance dust limit of 10 mg/m3.

Respiratory Protection: A respirator should be used when dust exposure dictates.

Protective Clothing: None listed.

Eye Protection: Use of safety glasses (preferably with side shields) is recommended.

Other: Washing facilities should be available.
