放射線適応応答は、事前に低線量の放射線を照射すると、その後の高線量の放射線の障害が低減 される現象である。放射線抵抗性誘導の研究には、放射線照射により生じた活性酸素種を消去する 抗酸化能と、生じた DNA 損傷の修復能の2つの観点からの解析が重要と思われる。ここでは、DNA 損傷の1つの原因である活性酸素種と、これを消去する抗酸化能にまず着目して、これまでの放射 線適応応答に関する知見を整理し、抗酸化能と放射線適応応答の関連について考察してみたい。

Radiation-induced adaptive response (RAR) is a phenomenon manifesting as a priming low dose-induced resistance against a subsequent irradiation at higher dose. To understand this biological defensive phenomenon against radiation, it is important to study from the mechanistic point of view of two basic aspects: One is the antioxidative capability to scavenge the reactive oxygen species generated by radiation, and the other is the capability to repair radiation-induced damages. In this review, we summarize the knowledge of reactive oxygen species, and discuss the relationship between the low dose-induced increase in antioxidative activity and RAR.
