Editor’s Message to Special Issue of
the Internet and Operation Technologies for Comfortable
Administrations and Operations
Mikifumi Shikida
1,a)In recent years, with the spread of cloud services, information systems have become large-scale and centralized, and the bur-den on administrations and operations of the system providers is increasing. For implementations of large-scale information sys-tems, automation of operation is being promoted using container virtualization and its orchestration technology. Also, regarding developments and deployments of services, methods for auto-mated and efficient operations by performing continuous integra-tion (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) have come to be used. Although these technologies are reducing the burden on opera-tors, infrastructure systems have become even larger using scal-able technologies. The burden of operations on the providers of the infrastructure systems is still high.
In this special issue, we focus on technologies that make oper-ations and administroper-ations of the Internet and infrastructure sys-tems more efficient, and that not only users but also providers can operate comfortably.
The special issue presents papers on the latest research, devel-opment, experiment, and operation for implementation and uti-lization of future infrastructure systems. It is designed and edited mainly by the Special Interest Group on the Internet and Opera-tion Technology (IOT) with the aim of contributing to the devel-opment of various operation technologies related to the Internet and infrastructure systems. Thirteen papers were submitted for the issue, and the review was led by a special issue editorial com-mittee consisting of 18 members. We invited the program mem-bers of the 12th Internet and Operation Technology Symposium (IOTS2019), which was held at the end of 2019. We also encour-aged the submission of papers based on IOTS2019 presentations. Finally, I would like to thank all the IPSJ officials who pro-vided me with the opportunity to plan the special issue and for their efforts and support. In addition, I would like to thank all the authors for their contributions. I also would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the members of the editorial committee, who made great efforts to complete the special issue. I would like to expect that this special issue will be useful information for readers and will contribute to the development of information and communication technology in the future.
