Japan’s Health Insurance

Japan has a public health care insurance system that all citizens are enrolled in. Illnesses and injuries may strike you one day, all of a sudden. You would be in trouble if you cannot afford to see a doctor. It is established by law in Japan that all enroll in the public health insurance scheme so that they can be free from anxiety when they require health care services. Foreign nationals who are permitted to stay in Japan for a period of more than three months, and who are registered as foreign residents are also required to enroll in the public health insurance scheme. This system is operated based on the concept of mutual aid. All residents of Japan pay some money for health insurance premiums in accordance with their respective income on a regular basis, so that it can be allocated for use on medical expenses medical expenses incurred by illness or injury. This is an important system that protects your health and life.

Treatment at a Hospital

Standard Procedures at a Hospital

(1) At the reception desk, show your health insurance card, explain your medical problem, and specify which department you wish to receive treatment in.

(2) After registering, you will be given your patient ID card. Give this card to the departmental receptionist. Normally, you have to wait in the area in front of the reception desk or close-by until your name is called.

(3) Once your name is called, go in to see the doctor and receive treatment. (4) After treatment, pay the appropriate fee in cash at the cashier’s counter.

(5) If the doctor prescribes medication, go to the pharmacy to purchase your medicine.

Children who live in Minato City receive free periodic immunization for Hib, BCG, and other diseases. Influenza vaccinations are also administered to senior citizens. Photochemical Smog

When a photochemical smog waning is issued, Minato City notifies residents through broadcasts from a disaster administration wireless communications system as well as Minato City’s website. When an alert has been issued, avoid going outside as much as pos-sible. If your eyes start to itch or you get a sore throat, quickly wash your face and gargle. After that, contact the Public Health and Disease Prevention Subsection of Public Health and Disease Prevention Section about your symptoms. Designated Health Checkup/Designated Health Counseling

Health checkups and health counseling (designated health checkup and designated health counseling) are provided to prevent and improve the symptoms of metabolic syndrome. Minato City will notify NHI insured residents aged 40 to 74 about these checkups. Take your checkup coupon and health insurance card to your medical facility to receive your Designated Health Checkup. Those whose checkup results show a need for improvement in their life-style habits are eligible for Designated Health Counseling, and Minato City will send a notice and voucher to them. Specialists are available to support practices aimed at preventing or improving metabolic syndrome, implemented based on the checkup findings and lifestyle habits. This facility helps adults 18 years of age and older with health maintenance and the prevention or improvement of lifestyle diseases.
