Message from ITGI
Greetings,
As international president of the IT Governance Institute, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the ITGI Japan Opening Celebration Conference. It is not often I have the opportunity to celebrate two such significant events at once: the convening of this conference and the formal launch of ITGI’s Japanese affiliate. I envy you the opportunity to be part of both.
In recent years, information technology has taken an increasingly critical role in enterprise success. In many organizations, success depends on the ability of IT to enable achievement of business goals. In such an environment, governance over IT is a critical board and management discipline—just as is corporate governance or enterprise governance. Effective IT governance helps ensure that IT supports business goals, maximizes business investment in IT, and appropriately manages IT-related risks and opportunities.
ITGI was established in 1998 in recognition of this growing trend and the resulting need for research that benefits enterprises by assisting enterprise leaders in their responsibility to make IT successful in supporting the enterprise’s mission and goals. By conducting original research on IT governance and related topics, ITGI helps enterprise leaders understand and have the tools to ensure effective governance over IT within their enterprise.
We in ITGI are extremely proud to have our Japanese affiliate at our side as we strive to be the leading reference on IT-enabled
governance for the global business community. Japan has a long tradition of being at the forefront of advanced IT topics, and ITGI Japan’s leadership in this area is no exception. We are grateful for ITGI Japan’s support and we look forward to the contributions it will make to our understanding of this increasingly complex professional field.
The conference you are about to attend is a good example of the type of enlightenment we believe ITGI Japan will bring to IT governance a related topics. We congratulate the organization on pulling together such an impressive program, and we salute all those in attendance for making the investment in your career development by attending the event. 近年、情報技術がその著しい進歩に伴い、企業活動においてよりいっ
そう重要な役割を担うようになってきていることは言うまでもありませ
ん。多くの企業においてビジネス目標の達成が
ITの力に強く依存す
るようになっております。コーポレート・ガバナンスが企業において重
要な役割を果たしているのと同様に、
ITに関するガバナンスが企業
経営において同様な重要性を持つようになってきております。
効果的なITガバナンスによって、ITがビジネス目標の達成、IT投資
の効率の最大化、及びITに関するリスクと機会の適切なマネジメント
の実現を支援することを担保するものとなります。
既に多くの国々でITガバナンスは経営者層においても責任を持つべ
き領域であることが認知され、企業・組織全体をより良く機能させる
ために不可欠のものであると認識されている所であります。
ITGI Japan設立の背景
ITGIは米国において1998年に以上のような傾向が今後
一層強まることを予見して設立され、
ITガバナンス及び
関連するトピックスに関する調査研究を推進し、その成果
（
COBITやVAL IT等）をグローバルなビジネス・コミュニティ
に提供してまいりました。
このたび、日本においても
ITGIと連携した活動を行うた
めの団体として
ITGI Japanを設立し、グローバルなビジ
ネス・コミュニティにおける
ITガバナンスの知識を日本に
広めると共に、日本のビジネス・コミュニティにおける
ITガ
バナンスに関する調査研究活動も推進することになりま
した。
