Daishi Kato Kazuo Kunieda Keiji Yamada†. Wikipedia [2]. and. 2009 1. This paper reports the result of our survey on participants’ motivation in creation chain activities. The creation chain is a term referring to a product / service creation process by many individuals. We carried out the online questionnaire survey of 242 people with experience of Wikipedia editing, the representative example of the creation chain activities. In this survey, the respondents were asked to answer the questions pertaining to motivation in Wikipedia editing. From the result of the survey, we concluded that people can be motivated to join the creation chain activities when: (1) they can find the room for improvement and contribution readily; and (2) the activity is intriguing in itself and helps them to develop themselves. At the same time, we couldn’t recognize clear association between the frequency of participation and: (1) the intensity of initial motivation; (2) whether they have fun or not. In addition, contrary to our initial expectation, 36.8% of the respondents confessed that they did not find pleasantness in the editing activities. Moreover, 44.2% of them did not think they contribute the Wikipedia and made themselves useful to someone by joining the editing activities.. 15 260. †. 1. 1000.
