A Note on Teaching English Syntax

TAKAHASHI Yasuo

Abstract

The antisymmetry between complements and adjuncts based on X-bar Theory has been assumed to play an important role in explaining the linear order of complements and adjuncts. But Kuno (2006) and Kuno and Takami (2007) showed counter examples to this standard assumption and they concluded that this order is not derived from that antisymmetry, but is controlled by a functional constraint. This paper explores what instructors should do when faced with unexpected data in teaching English syntax.

We give examples of: (1) a contigual zero space which is not weakly regular and is not a Cauchy space; (2) a sep- arated filter space which is a z-regular space but not a

(Robertson and others have given examples fulfilling (a), and examples fulfilllng (b), but these examples were not solid, normed sequence spaces.) However, it is shown that

Although such deter- mining equations are known (see for example [23]), boundary conditions involving all polynomial coefficients of the linear operator do not seem to have been

From this figure it is clear that the counter-propagation network is composed of three layers: an input layer that reads input patterns from the training set and forwards them to

This result is applicable to most typical nested fractals (but not to the d-dimensional standard Sierpi´ nski gasket with d ≥ 2 at this moment) and all generalized Sierpi´ nski

It is worthwhile to note that the method of B -bounded semigroups does not require X to be a Banach space (in fact X is not required to have any structure but linear) and

The reason is that in centrifugal pumps, the annular seal flow is not maintained in the laminar state but grows from a laminar state to transition regime state and finally a

I think that ALTs are an important part of English education in Japan as it not only allows Japanese students to hear and learn from a native-speaker of English, but it
