次の英文を読み,設問に答えなさい。( 点) Albert Einstein appeared to know the

benefits of music. When he was young, he didn’t do well in school. In fact, his teacher said that “he was too stupid to learn.” However, it was thought that listening to Mozart’s music helped Einstein become one of the smartest men in history.

Music has been important to humans for as long as we can remember. The earliest known music was written on a tablet* 15,000 years ago. Researchers have even found flutes that are 50,000 years old.

Besides being for enjoyment, music

has been used as a tool.

Psychologists have written about the benefits of music. They say, for example, it helps people relax. Research shows that music can

reduce stress by over 40

percent. It also helps us concentrate. Studies find that workers do ten percent more work when they are listening to music. However, only

specific kinds of music

have this effect. Music that has a tempo of 60 beats per minute, like classical Baroque music, is said to be best.

Music also makes us eat and drink more. Scientists

recognize that fast music

makes us eat faster, and slow music makes us eat more slowly. If you eat quickly, your body doesn’t have time to tell you it’s full, and you often eat too much. If you eat over a long period, you’re likely to order extra desserts or drinks. For this reason, many restaurants will play classical music in the background. It has helped to increase drink sales by 40 percent and gotten customers to stay 24 percent longer than usual.

Most people are

nervous at the dentist’s office. No one likes the sound of a

drill working on their teeth. A dentist and a psychologist did an experiment together to see if playing classical music would

comfort patients. Patients who

listened to classical music through headphones had a more relaxing experience than those who did not.

Humans aren’t the only ones affected by music. Classical music makes chickens lay more eggs, and cows produce more milk. Even plants appear to respond to music; plants in a room with classical music grow toward the music,

has the power to improve not only your grades, but also your chickens’

output.

That sounds like good news!
