Chigo-Gyoretsu (procession of children in fancy attire) takes place in the precincts from 2 pm on the 14th. The festival is rather small in scale this year.

Tsukiji-jishi Matsuri Festival at Namiyoke-Inari Shrine, Chuo-ku. On the 13th, Edo Sato-kagura (local festival music) is continually performed from around 10 am to the evening. On the 14th, a parade of floats; (1) Ojishi (big imaginary male lion head) weighing about 1 ton, (2)
Mejishi (big imaginary female lion head) weighing about
700 kg, (3) a pair of Kin-shishi (lions gilded with gold), and (4) five pairs of Shishi-gashira (lions' heads floats) owned by the town carried by thousands of people, starts from Namiyoke-Inari Shrine at around 8:15 am, and marches through the main streets of the Tsukiji area and returns to the Shrine at around 4:30 pm.

Local specialties of the Gujo-Hachiman area are put on sale during the period.

Torigoe Chinowa-kuguri or a traditional ceremony to pray for good health and longevity takes place at Torigoe Shrine, Taito-ku, from 8 pm to 8:30 pm on June 30th. Suijosai-Katashiro-nagashi or a Shinto ritual features a purification ceremony held on July 1st. Gozabune boat carrying Katashiro (paper cut in the shape of dolls), escorted by dozens of boats, departs from Yanagibashi Bridge close to JR Asakusabashi Sta. at 10 am and goes down the Sumida River as far as Tokyo Bay.

Itako Ayame Matsuri or Iris Flower Festival at Maekawa Iris Garden, Itako, Ibaraki Pref. The iris flowers from various parts of Japan are exhibited during the festival period. Admission is free. Yomeiri-fune (demonstration of escorting a bride by boat) on the river leaves the pier in the garden at around 11 am, 2 pm and 8 pm every Saturday, and at 11 am and 2 pm every Sunday, both during the period. Itako-Bayashi (festival music) from 1 pm to 2 pm, and Ayame-Odori (local Japanese dance) from 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm are performed every Sunday during the period. When it rains, the schedule of
Yomeiri-fune and dances are subject to change.

Chagu-chagu Umakko (Horse Festival) at Sozen Shrine, Takizawa-mura, Iwate-gun, Iwate Pref. About a hundred of colorfully decorated horses are led to Sozen Shrine by their proud owners, who pray for long life of their horses. They gather at the Shrine around 8:30 am and start parading at 9:30 am, passing by Morioka Sta. at 12:40 pm, and then arrive at Hachimangu Shrine at 1:55 pm.
(1)The JR Tohoku Shinkansen Line to Morioka Sta., and then 20 min. by taxi to Sozen Shrine.

Sapporo Matsuri or Annual Festival of Hokkaido Jingu Shrine, Sapporo, Hokkaido. The highlight of the festival comes on the 16th when four Mikoshi (portable shrines) and eight beautifully bedecked floats proceed from the Shrine to Odori Koen (park) in the city's busiest part from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Kagura (Shinto music and dance) is played from 3 pm to 4 pm on the 14th. On the 15th,
Noh (classical masked drama) from 11:20 am to 12:50
pm, Japanese martial arts from 1 pm to 2:40 pm,
Kagura from 2:50 pm to 4:50 pm, Gagaku (court music

Otako-gassen or kite-fighting event is held on the riverbed of the Nakanokuchi River, Shirone, Niigata Pref., featuring thirteen huge kites flown by groups of citizens from 1 pm to 6 pm (to 5:30 pm on the 8th) during the event period.
(1)50 min. by bus bound for Katahigashi-eigyosho (via Shirone) from Niigata Kotsu Bus Terminal in front of JR Niigata Sta., and then get off at Noto Bus Stop (get off at Shirone Sho-mae Bus Stop on the 6th and 7th).

Kenka (the ritual of dedicating flower arrangement) by

Annual Festive Rites at Fuji Sengen Shrine, Fuji-Yoshida, and at Komitake Shrine on Yoshida-guchi 5th Station, Yamanashi Pref. On June 30th, Chinowa
Shinji (Shinto rites) take place at Fuji Sengen Shrine at 3
pm, being followed by Omichi-Biraki, a ceremony to go through Torii gate praying for the safety of the climbers. On July 1st, Mt. Fuji Yama-biraki or the rites to mark the opening of Mt. Fuji to climbers start from 5 am at Komitake Shrine. After the ceremony, two Mikoshi (portable shrines), one of them with a shape of Mt. Fuji, are carried up starting from 5:20 am to the 6th Station.

Kaizan-ki at Mie-do Hall of Toshodaiji Temple, Nara. A wooden image of Ganjin Wajo (a National Treasure), and Fusuma-e (paintings on Fusuma, vertical rectangular panels which can slide from side to side to redefine spaces within a room) by a well-known artist, Kaii Higashiyama, both stored, are shown to the public from 9 am to 4 pm during the period. Saigusa Matsuri (Lily Festival) at Isagawa Shrine, Nara. This elegant festival has a 1,200-year history. The ritual of dedicating flowers to the Shrine starts from 10:30 am. A parade of women and children in white ancient costume holding lilies in their hands proceeds on the city's main streets from 1:30 pm to around 3 pm.

Cormorant fishing is an ancient method of catching
Ayu (sweetfish or trout-like fish) handling trained
cormorants. This takes place at night under the light of blazing torches fastened to the prows of fishing boats. It will be held every day during the period except on the night of the full moon or when the water is excessively muddy.
