講義目的及び到達目標 To study economics and management, it is important to know the historical backgroun d of present economy.

The objective of this course is to consider present economic problems in historical pers pective.

The target of this course is to acquire basic knowledge on economic history.

講義内容・授業計画 This course consists of three parts and the lectures will be conducted by three lecturer s. The lectures are based on each professional field of lecturer. Video materials may be used in several lectures.

Course outline is following.

Part I : Economic history of Europe and USA (SAITO) 1. Course Guidance (to announce the detail of this course)

2. Economic system before market economy in ancient and medieval 3. Making of market economy and capitalism in early modern 4. Industrial Revolution of Britain

5. Industrial economy in modern

Part II : Economic history of Asia (CHEN)

6. Silver and Asian globalization in the 16-19th century 7. Opium and the West’s embrace of free trade 8. Development of Intra-Asian trade

9. Japan and China: cooperation and rivalry 10. Chinese network reconsidered

Part III : Economic history of Japan (OSAWA) 11. Crisis of The TOKUGAWA Regime 12. Industrial Revolution of Japan 13. Imperial Economic Structure in Japan 14. The Depression Crisis and The Pacific War 15. The Postwar “Economic Miracle” 16. Final Examination

(The method, schedule and final examination of this course may be changed by the situ ations of COVID-19 and the number of students. If the lectures are conducted online, t hey will be delivered by the method specified by the university.)

The credit will be given to persons to have achieved target of this course. The grade will be evaluated according to degree of the achievement. Methods for grade evaluation

- Assignments: 60% - Final examination: 40%

(Final examination may be changed to the other method by the situations of COVID-19. The detail will be announced in guidance and each lecture.)

履修上の注意・履修要件 ・You had better have basic knowledge on world history.

・You need to prepare before and review after each class by yourself.

・I will strictly deal with acts to bother the lectures, such as private talking, eating and drinking, and using mobile phones. Photographing class slides and writing board with smartphones is not permitted.

・The lectures will be conducted in person. But the way may be changed to online or o ther way by the situations.

・You are not permitted any credit remedies even if you are in the final year.

・Make sure you attend the first guidance. The detail on this course will be announced at that time.

・If you like to inquiry something on this course, send email to SAITO. If you have que stion on the lectures, ask each lecturer.

≪Correspondence to COVID-19≫

All lectures of this course will be conducted in person. But if the large number of stude nts register this course, the way may be changed to online or other. So, you may be req uired to have online communication environment - PCs, tablets and Wi-Fi environment - for attending and watching online lectures at home.

The method, schedule and final examination of this course may be changed by the situ ations of COVID-19 and the number of students. So, these will be informed to students after course registration has completed.
