EDITORIAL INTRODUCTION

A SPECIAL ISSUE ON THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE OPERATIONS RESEARCH SOCIETY OF JAPAN

The year 2017 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Operations Re-search Society of Japan (ORSJ), and it does also the 60th anniversary of the launch of the Journal of Operations Research Society of Japan (JORSJ). To celebrate this occasion, we decided to publish two special issues in July 2017 and in January 2018, whose printed ver-sions were planned to be distributed to all regular members of ORSJ, even though JORSJ switched over an electronic journal in 2010.

The editorial policy of the special issues is to collect high-quality papers by members of ORSJ, so as to demonstrate innumerable research activities of members of ORSJ and to gain the reputation of JORSJ. In addition to the distribution of call for papers to members of ORSJ, we sent it to potential authors individually, who had been nominated by editorial board members, as well as ORSJ Bunken Award/Research Award winners in the past.

All submitted papers had been subjected to the peer review process according to the regular, stringent standards of JORSJ. While eight papers are still under review, ten ac-cepted papers are included in this issue, which cover a broad variety of topics in operations research. We would like to thank all the authors who submitted their valuable contributions to the special issues and all the reviewers for their insightful comments, useful suggestions, and timely submission of their reviews. Finally, we are grateful to Ms. Shoko Takahashi and Ms. Keiko Fukuda, secretaries of JORSJ Editorial Office, for their dedicated and continuous support.
