T: Hello everyone, this is Tomi.
S: And this is Daniel. Welcome to Yokosuka English Information for the week of October 17th.
T: Welcome.
S: We are fast approaching the Halloween season.
T: Yeah, you can find all kinds of Halloween decorations or promotions at stores in Yokosuka.
S: I remember already seeing Halloween decorations and promotions going on at around the end of August.
T: Yeah, some places start really early.
S: It’s pretty similar to the states though too. It’s not surprising to find Christmas decorations for sale already at the beginning of November, or even earlier.
T: True. Well, speaking of Halloween, this week we have 2 Halloween-related festivals to talk about!

S: We might’ve teased them a bit last week, but now we have time to talk about them in more detail.
T: Yes, so 2 events will be going on this weekend. I hope everyone kept their schedule open.
S: Alright, so what’s the first one we should introduce? 北久里浜秋まつり
T: Let’s first start with the Kitakurihama Autumn Festival. S: Alright, sounds good.
T: So this festival is on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, from 10am to 5pm.
S: Yeah, and we initially said Halloween-themed, but there’s way more going on than just Halloween stuff at this festival too, right?
T: Yeah, there’s plenty. So let’s see… on both days, there will be a flea market, with a bunch of people selling their things.
S: Nice - that sounds pretty cool to go to. It’d be really interesting checking out a big open flea market in a foreign country. Especially in Japan.
T: Yeah, you’ll never know what you may find.
S: Right. Might be able to get some really cool stuff for cheap.
T: And then besides that, there will also be a stage set up with a lot of performances. Music, dance…

S: Cool.
T: There will also be bingo contests, a “mini-zoo” with animals, food vendors, and more.
S: Wow, alright - so there really is going to be a lot of stuff, huh. Is this all in the same place?
T: It’s all at Negishi Traffic Park and Negishi Park No. 3, which are both within walking distance from Kitakurihama station.
S: Got it. And to back up for a second, you said a “mini-zoo” will be there?
T: Yeah. Basically a small area where people can go and meet some different farm animals. It’ll be great for animal-lovers or people with kids.
S: Yeah, for sure. So this is all part of the same Kitakurihama Autumn Festival, right?
T: Yes.
S: So stage shows, food, animals, flea markets… and then we mentioned it also had some Halloween-themed things going on too right?
T: Yeah, on Sunday, there will be some Halloween-related activities. This is something where kids can come in their Halloween costumes, receive some candy, and they will take part in a costume parade!

T: Yes, but if you want to have your children participate in the parade, and the costume contest that follows, make sure you’re there by 1pm, as that’s when registration starts.
S: Okay. So listeners will have a wide range of things to do at the Kitakurihama Autumn Festival, which is going on both this upcoming Saturday and Sunday. You said from 10am to 5pm, right?
T: Yes, but the Halloween event will only be on Sunday, which people should get there by 1pm if they want to register their kids for the event.
S: And even if you don’t have kids, you can of course come and watch the parade, check out the costumes, and watch the costume contest afterwards.
T: Of course. There will be something for everyone there.
S: And one last time, this will be all nearby Kitakurihama station, specifically in Negishi Traffic Park and Negishi Park No. 3.
T: Yes, so make sure you check it out! S: Sounds fun. T: 北久里浜秋まつりが 10 月 22 日(土)23 日（日）、北久里浜駅近 くの根岸交通公園にて行われます。フリーマーケット、ビン ゴゲーム、ミニ動物園などのほか、23 日(日)にはハロウィー ン仮装パレードが行われます！パレード参加希望の方は 23 日 午後 1 時までに根岸第３公園に集合してください。

T: By the way, Have you ever been to 根岸交通公園？ It’s quite an interesting place.
S: Negishi Traffic Park? No, I haven’t yet.
T: 根岸交通公園 is a park. But there are things like traffic signals and traffic signs, a road… It's like a real town.
S: Oh really? That’s cool. I didn’t know.
T: Children can borrow a bike, and ride a bike while learning the traffic safety rules in the park.
S: Oh wow, that’s a really good idea. I was wondering why they referred to it as Negishi “Traffic Park.”
T: And now you know.
Y・フェスタ追浜
S: Yes. And we have one more event going on this upcoming weekend, on Sunday, to celebrate the season.
T: The Oppama fireworks show, right?
S: Yes, the Y Festival Oppama fireworks. Which as you can tell by the name… is taking place from the Oppama area.
T: What time are they scheduled?
S: The fireworks show is scheduled to be from 5:30pm to 6pm. If you want to get there early, there will of course be food stalls and other things to check out there too. For the fireworks, about 2500 fireworks are going to be launched just off the Oppama area, over the ocean.

T: Nice.
S: You know, we mention food stalls a lot on this show. With us talking about festivals and different events all the time.
T: Yeah, that’s true. In Japanese we call them 屋台.
S: Yeah, so if you ever hear the word 屋台, that’s the food stalls that you always see at festivals and stuff.
T: Are there 屋台 in the states, too?
S: Uhh, I feel like there’s maybe not quite as many as you see at festivals in Japan, but yeah, if you go to certain events or fairs in the states, you’ll definitely see food stalls set up.
T: But what they sell must be completely different, right?
S: It can be. You’ll still see stuff like cotton candy, snow cones… but yeah then you’ll probably see stuff more like hot dogs, roasted nuts, or corn-the-cob.
T: That sounds really interesting. Sometimes you can experience American food stalls in Yokosuka too, when they open up part of the base for festivals.
S: Oh yeah, I guess that’s true.
T: It’s a good way to try out different kinds of foods.
S: Yeah, listeners can kind of sample a bunch of different foods at once at these festivals.

S: So going back the Oppama festival and fireworks show: the fireworks will be launched right next to the ocean. If you want to go right to the actual site, you’ll want to make your way to Oppama station.
T: Sounds good.
S: Should be a fun way to celebrate the Halloween season.
