Abstract: Artificial intelligence work related to natural language processing of text has exploded in recent years,. particularly with work on social media. At the same time, speech recognition performance has improved dramatically with advances in neural networks. These advances together provide for opportunities to explore applications in social artificial intelligence, specifically understanding and facilitating human-human interaction. In this talk, we discuss the role of prosody in socialbots, specifically with the goal of enabling humans to use speech to read and respond to online discussions, as well as new models for integrating prosody in understanding multi-party speech for understanding both semantic and social meaning.. †1 University of Washington. ⓒ 2017 Information Processing Society of Japan. 1.
