Etsushi Uchida, the New Mayor of Urayasu

It is an honor to have been entrusted with the respon-sibility of becoming your new mayor with the recent election. I can feel the weight of the responsibility of my new duties and the great hope expressed to me by all the city residents for the city administration. I hope to do my utmost in the operation of Urayasu’s city administration.

I believe that Urayasu is now known across Japan as a wonderful city, thanks to the efforts of our predeces-sors and the result of city planning, with city residents playing the main role. However, there is no end to city planning. I hope to work for the further development of Urayasu without breaking the flow of the good vibra-tions that we have been blessed with until now, and I hope to reconsider city programs once again from the

perspective of a city resident. In other words, I believe that working on continuation and reform simultaneously is the key to maintaining the brilliance of Urayasu 10 to 20 years from now.

For this reason, I believe that it is important not to examine each and every administrative issue indepen-dently, but rather with an overall perspective, in order to reach a solution. I hope to work hard from the heart, aiming for further progress in “city planning with city residents playing the main role,” in which the city works with solidarity so that everyone can lead their lives with peace of mind and full of energy, achieving their own kind of lifestyle. I thank you in advance for your gra-cious understanding and support.

City Planning, with City Residents Playing the Main Role

Greeting from Etsushi Uchida, Urayasu City Mayor

Mayor Etsushi Uchida, who was elected as the new Urayasu City Mayor on March 26, arrived at his office at City Hall for the first time at 1:30 p.m. on March 28. On that day, Mayor Uchida arrived at the front entrance of City Hall. Upon getting out of the car, he received a large bouquet of flowers from the City Hall staff, and he entered his office on the fifth floor of City Hall after receiving a hearty applause from all the staff, as well as from the city residents that came to welcome the new mayor.

Garnering Excitement for Rugby in Urayasu

Urayasu Announces Candidacy as an Oicial Team Camp Location for the 2019 Rugby World Cup

The Rugby World Cup, which is held once every four years, will be held in 2019 from September through November. Japan will host the tournament—the first Asian country to do so—in which 20 teams from around the world will compete. The tournament will be held at 12 locations across Japan.

Urayasu City has placed a bid with the Rugby World Cup 2019 Executive Committee—the managing or-ganization for the tournament—to serve as an oicial team camp location. However, placing a bid does not automatically make our city an oicial camp location.

The decision is made after the screening of the execu-tive committee and after observational tours by the participating teams. Currently, 76 applications have been made from across Japan, and the inal decision will be made by around summer 2018.

We hope to enhance the enthusiasm for rugby in our city by holding various events related to rugby in the future. To do so, the support and participation of our city residents are of great importance. Let’s strength-en the solidarity of Urayasu and stir the excitemstrength-ent by making Urayasu a rugby town!

Urayasu Will Become a Home for a Japan Rugby Top League Team!

The home stadium for the NTT Communications Shining Arcs, a team in the Japan Rugby Top League, will be completed in the Takasu district in March 2018. We will be able to experience rugby irsthand by holding friendly exchange programs with the Top League athletes, and by being able to see them play up close.
