Loneliness and Interpersonal Trust in High−School and University Students

  The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between loneliness and various aspects of interpersonal trust． The UCLA Loneliness Scale（Russell et al．，1980）， the Interpersonal Trust Scale

（Rotter，1967）， and other scales for trust in significant others were administered to high●school and university students （ZV＝351）．

  The following results were obtained：

  1）Only for males，10neliness scores were negatively correlated with ilterperSOnal trUSt ScOres．

  2）Results of several multiple regression analyses suggested that the trust in close friends of the same sex was a powerful predictor of Ioneliness in males．
