はじめに

この一年は、南山宗教文化研究所にとって、多くのプロジェクトやイベントに参加したり完成させ たり、さらに新しいプロジェクトも誕生させたりした時期でありました。今回の『所報』はその一部 の報告を掲載しています。まず、主に企画の責任を負った奥山倫明所員から2004年4月に行われた

「国際研究集会」について「国際ワークショップ開催報告」にまとめられています。しかし何といって も、去年の大イベントとはいうまでもなく2005年3月末に東京で開催された第9回国際宗教学・宗 教史会議（IAHR）世界大会でありました。この大会に伴って、本研究所ではいろいろな会議などを 企画し、なるべく多くの学者が海外から参加でくるようにと努力を重ねてきました。その中にはここ で報告されている「中東知的交流セミナー」の一環として “In Search of Dialogue among Religions in

the Middle East” のワークショップ（3月2日、奥山倫明所員担当）と「世界の諸宗教の対話」（The

Dialogue among Religions around the World, 3月22日、ジェームズ・ハイジック所員担当）が開催さ れ、多数の国から多くの方を迎えることができました。IAHR^{大会そのものにも宗文研の研究所員が} そろって実行委員会などで準備に励み、大会でのパネル、特別全体会議、イベントなどに積極的に 参加しましたが、その詳細については渡邉学所員が報告をまとめました。

新しいプロジェクトとしては、John Templeton FoundationのGlobal Perspectives on Science and

Spirituality (GPSS) プロジェクトの一環として宗文研の企画が採用され、「科学・こころ・宗教」をテ

ーマに、一年あまり懇話会やシンポジウムを開催することになりました。このプロジェクトの責任者と なった私が、その経過についての報告と、プロジェクトの目的と理想について説明する論文を執筆し ました。

今年のBulletin （29号）にも国際ワークショップの報告や GPSS についての論文を掲載しましたが、

日本語版と異なり、辻村志のぶ氏の「現代宗教の周縁化」の英訳、渡邉学所員の「オウム真理教と メディアの利用」についての論文、とベンジャミン・ドーマン編集員の「宗教とマス・メディア」につ いての論文をも掲載しています。日本語の『所報』と英文のBulletinはいずれも宗文研のホーム・ペ ージでご覧になれますので、是非ご参照下さい。

今後も研究所として多くの活動に参加し、多くの方々と触れ合うことができることを切に願ってい ます。

2004年

4月2日 James Heisigが西谷啓治の『宗教と無』のルーマニア語への翻訳に対する援助と

して、サントリー文化財団から30万円の出版助成金が受給されたとの連絡を受 ける。

4月7日 Paul Swansonが2005年の第9回国際宗教学宗教史会議（IAHR）の全体会議の打

ち合わせで、Helen Hardacre、末木文美士、安丸良夫と合流するため、林淳とと もに東京へ出張。

4月9–25日 James HeisigがイタリアのナポリにあるUniversità OrientaleとPontificia Facoltà Teologica dell’Italia Meridionaleで講演をするため、ヨーロッパへ出張。また、国 際会議に出席のため、ナポリからオランダのアデルドールンに出張。

4月23日 日本女子大学助教授の磯前順一が来所し、「西洋と日本宗教研究」についてゲス ト講義を行う。

4月27–30日 南山大学、アジア欧州財団Asia-Europe Foundation（シンガポール）、ルアーヴ

ル大学Le Havre University（フランス）を主催者とし、大幸財団他の後援によ

り、日本学術振興会「国際研究集会」プログラム、アジア-ヨーロッパ・ワー クショップ「人間のためのグローバリゼーションを求めて――精神文化に依拠 した社会運動の貢献――」が、名古屋ガーデンパレスで開催される（奥山倫明 が共同企画者として参加）。タイの社会運動家Sulak SivaraksaとLondon School of Economics名誉教授のEileen Barkerらが基調講演を行った。

4月29日 ドイツのオスナブリュックの弁護士Robert Rautherが漢字に関するドイツ語の テキストを作成するため、4週間の日程で来所し、James Heisigと協力。

5月4–27日 Andre van der Braak（University of Amsterdam and Luzac College, Alkmaar）がニー チェと龍樹の研究のため来所。

5月4日 James W. Jones（Rutgers University）が懇話会で「恐怖と変容――宗教のパラドクス」

というテーマで発表。27名が参加。

5月5日 NCC宗教研究所、上智大学キリスト教文化・東洋宗教研究所、オリエンス研究 所の代表が出席し、EGSIDの会議が当研究所で開催される。会議の後、中田考

（同志社大学一神教学際研究センター、CISMOR）が「CISMORのヴィジョンと活動」

を報告。

5月9日 Michael Brownstein（University of Notre Dame）が近松門左衛門研究のため、短期 間の滞在予定で来所。

5月24日 Erin McCarthy（St. Lawrence University）が日本哲学とフェミニズムの研究のため、

ヶ月間の滞在予定で来所。

5月28日 京都のNCC宗教研究所の客員研究員Annewieke Vroomが臨済仏教と京都学派の 研究のため来所。

6月日 西谷啓治の『宗教と無』のイタリア語訳La religione e il nullaが出版社のCittà

Nuova of Romeから届く。本書は研究所の協力によって作成された。

6月4日 Japanese Journal of Religious Studies（Vol. 3/）が印刷所から届く。本号は新しいデ ザインの表紙となった最初の号である。

6月7–0日 第2回南山シンポジウムが「哲学の再定義」というテーマで開催される。0ヶ 国から6名の参加者と5名のオブザーバーが集まった。

6月4日 2003年夏から2004年春まで客員研究員を務めたScott Schnellが、所員セミナー で「3つの視点から見た山――日本アルプスのランドスケープにおける自然、心、

瞑想」を発表。

6月23日 Paul Swansonは国際的な研究機関との交流の促進を目的とした科研費のプロジ

ェクトの一環として、複数の研究者と研究機関を訪問するため、アメリカへ出張。

6月27日 Robert KisalaとBenjamin DormanはAsian Studies Association of Australiaの年次大 会に参加するため、オーストラリアに出張。

6月30日 James Heisigは、モンセラート修道院での諸宗教集会に参加し、バルセロナでの

“Foro 2004”' の会合で講演するためヨーロッパへ出張。

7月3–0日 奥山倫明はFourth International Meeting of Socio-Religious Studiesに参加するため、

キューバのハバナに出張。

7月5–0日 香港中文大学の宗教学専攻の大学院生 Yoyo Chan Yiu Kwan が短期間の滞在のた め来所。

7月5 日 第24回研究例会の開催。Barbara Ambros（国際基督教大学）が「大山の宗教に ついてのビデオ、『天の岩戸開き』を見て」を発表。参加者は4名。

7月6 日 2002年9月から2004年8月まで客員研究員を務めたGereon Kopfが、所員セミ ナーで「平常心と平常底とのあいだ――西田哲学における仏教の解釈」という テーマで発表。

7月20–22日 東西宗教交流学会の第23回年次大会が当研究所で開催される。

7月23日 John Templeton FoundationのプロジェクトGlobal Perspectives on Science and

Spiritualityへの参加可能性についてPranab Das 教授との懇談が行われた。

7月24日 奥山倫明が研究者たちとの交流とエリアーデ研究のためアトランタとバークレ ーへ出張。

8月30日 James Heisigは各国の宗教哲学研究者たちと知り合い、さまざまな研究所と接触

するため、リトアニア、エストニア、フィンランド、フランス、トルコへ出張。

9月6–5日 奥山倫明が European Association for the Study of Religion の第4回大会 に参加するためスペインへ出張。

9月0–2日 Paul Swansonが東京大学で開かれた第9回国際宗教学宗教史会議（IAHR）の 実行委員会と日本宗教学会第63回学術大会に出席するため東京へ出張。Paul

Swanson 所長が日本宗教学会常務理事、James Heisigと渡邉学両所員が同学会理

事に選出された。

9月7日 山本祐靖東京大学名誉教授を迎えて、懇話会を開催。テーマは「科学と宗教に 対立はない――キリスト者の立場から」である。26名が参加。懇話会開始前に TempletonのGlobal Perspectives on Science and Spirituality（GPSS）のプロジェクト について会議を行う。

9月2–28日 Paul Swanson が国際的な研究機関との交流の促進を目的としたプロジェクトの

一環として、複数の研究者と会い、いくつかの研究機関を訪問するため、台湾 へ出張。

9月30日 Zaza Piralishvili（Tbilisi State University, Georgia）が大幸財団の助成によって客員 研究員として6ヶ月間滞在するため名古屋に到着。

0月4–6日 Bernard Stevens 教授（Louvain University）の指導を受けている大学院生 Pauline Couteau が日本哲学の研究と文献収集のために短期間の滞在予定で来所。

0月8日 Paul Swansonが京都の真宗大谷派教学研究所で行われた第3回教団付置研究所

懇話会にオブザーバーとして参加。

0月22日 James Heisigが研究所のいくつかの業務を処理し、さまざまな出版や研究プロジ

ェクトを促進するため、バルセロナ、マドリード、パレルモへ出張。

0月30日 渡邉学が経済倫理に関する科研費（研究代表・杉田正樹関東学院大学教授）に よる調査のためハワイへ出張。

月5–8日 Paul Swansonが、熊野地域の世界遺産登録記念シンポジウムと第25日本山岳修

験学会熊野学術大会に参加するため和歌山県新宮市に出張。また、この機会を 用いて、仏教と科学との対話を行うTempletonのGPSSプロジェクトへの参加可 能性について話し合うため Adam Engle と京都で面談。

月日 京都大学大学院文学研究科の芦名定道助教授を迎えて懇話会の開催。テーマは

「科学と宗教の対話――その現状と課題」。25名が参加。

月9–23日 Paul Swanson、渡邉学、Robert Kisala、奥山倫明、Benjamin Dormanがテキサス のサンアントニオでのAAR年次大会に参加するため、アメリカへ出張。また、

いくつかの研究所のプロジェクトにも参加する。

2月日 渡邉学が「カルト問題と社会秩序――公共性の構築に関する比較社会論的検討」

と題するセミナーを研究所で開催し3つの研究レポートが報告される。7名が参 加。なお、これは、Robert Kisala と渡邉学が参加している科研費プロジェクト（研 究代表・櫻井義秀北海道大学大学院教授）と「宗教と社会」学会のカルト問題 研究プロジェクトの共催である。

2月4日 懇 話 会の開 催。台 湾の輔 仁 大 学 教 授、科 学 與 宗 教 研 究 中 心 所 長の Frank Budenholzer が「中国における科学と宗教の対話――その現状と課題」というテ ーマで発表。20名が参加。

2月23日 佼 成 出 版に よ っ てCD-ROM化された『摩訶 止 観』The Great Cessation-and- Contemplation 第部が出版社から届く。

2月26–27日 Paul Swansonが京都でのCORMOSの第5回年次大会に参加し、パネルディスカ

ッション「教育における感性と霊性」の司会を務める。

2005年

月日 Robert Kisalaが神言会日本管区長に就任し、研究所の第二種研究所員として任命さ

れる。

月9–3日 James Heisigが記念講演のためスウェーデンのルンドに出張。そこから、西谷啓

治の哲学に関するRaquel Bousoの博士論文の審査に出席するためスペインのバ ルセロナへ出張。

月8日 Benjamin Dormanが東京の東洋哲学研究所で発表するため八王子へ出張。

2月8日 Paul Swansonが宗教の秘跡学に関するPeter Baekelmansの博士論文の口頭試問の

主査を務める。

2月24日 山梨有希子が所員セミナーで「宗教間「論」再考――宗教間対話をどう論じるか」

を発表。

2月28日 Ulombe Kaputu (Lubumbashi University, Congo)が文部科学省の助成でヶ月間の 滞在予定で来所。

3月4日 南山宗教文化研究所が申請していた学術研究プログラム「科学・こころ・宗教

――日本のコンテクストにおける科学と精神性」がGPSSの研究助成として採用 されたとの正式な連絡が届く。期間は2005年3月から2006年7月までである。

3月7日 客員研究員のZaza Piralishviliが、所員セミナーで「オウム真理教――東京の地 下鉄におけるテロ行為から十周年」を発表する。

3月0–2日 Paul SwansonがGPSSプロジェクトに招聘するため東京に出張し佐藤哲也（地球

シミュレーターセンター長）と田中啓治（理化学研究所脳科学総合研究センタ ー領域ディレクター）と面談。また、『宗教研究』の編集委員会にも参加。

3月8日 当研究所客員研究員Steven Engler（Mount Royal College, Calgary）が日本学術振 興会の助成により天理大学、北海道大学、慶應義塾大学で講演しIAHRに参加す るため大阪に到着。

3月2日 南山宗教文化研究所の協力と国際交流基金の後援による知的交流プログラム「中 東における宗教間対話の探求」の会議が当研究所で開催。チュニジア、エジプト、

イスラエル、トルコからの研究者、駐日チュニジア大使Salah Hannachiらが参加。

3月22日 本研究所とサントリー文化財団の後援によって円卓会議「宗教間対話――世界 からの報告」が本研究所において開催される。ハンガリー、ルーマニア、ウク ライナ、ベルギー、キューバ、ブラジル、フィリピン、韓国、日本からの報告 がなされた。

3月24–3日 研究員が東京での第9回国際宗教学宗教史会議（IAHR）に参加し、数多くのイ

ベントに積極的に関わった。
