Female-friendly urban development
Female-friendly facility functions will be enhanced, focusing on a 35-booth female toilet that is the largest in Japan, as well as powder corners and changing spaces. The “Papa Mama Spot” will be equipped with nursing rooms, parent-child toilets, diaper-changing spaces, relaxation spaces, and parent-child café tables, providing ample support for family outings.
The new hall that will open ahead of the other facilities in the fall of 2019 has 1,300 seats, and is fully equipped as a proper stage that can be used for a wide range of performances. A performance by the Takarazuka Revue has also been coni rmed as the event to mark the opening of the theater. The new Citizens Center will be equipped with a small hall and a multipurpose hall equipped with a convenient orchestra pit, and will serve as the citizens’ base for various activities such as presentations and lectures. The ofi ce block, comprising a cinema complex with 10 screens and a conference hall suitable for a wide range of business uses, will also commence operations in the summer of 2020, marking the birth of a group of eight theaters that is unprecedented in the world.

Multilingual Information
An information corner will be set up on the 1F of the new Citizens Center, offering information on all the various events that are held in Toshima City. Multilingual information is also available to foreign visitors. The information corner will provide a full lineup of services, including ticketing services for performances in the Ikebukuro area, and information about the city.

The former City Office area is the embodiment of the “theater city” vision established under the concept of the International City of Arts & Culture, with the entire city as the stage, and where anyone can play the leading role. There are eight theaters that offer a colorful lineup of programs. The ofi ce building will be a new landmark of Ikebukuro. The cultural hub, which will welcome 10 million visitors every year, will have its grand opening in the summer of 2020.
