Multicultural
square” was
held
On 13, Dec, 2014(Sat) ,
“Multicultural Square” was held
from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Tachikawa Josei Sogo center.
This year, two speakers who were connected to foreign countries gave us heart-felt speech. About 40 audience listened carefully to their interesting speech.
The first speaker was Kenji Kim who was born at Tachikawa city, raised at Tachikawa city

Tachikawa city as specialist of building construction. He talked about how he felt
towards “multicultural”.
His parents are Korean. His father was born in 1926, his mother in 1930 in Japan. Mr.
Kim is “the third Korean rational living in Japan”, born
in 1956. He talked with open-mind about how he felt as the Korean rational living in Japan, that he felt his hometown was Tachikawa, when he visited his
grandfather’s hometown, and
that his mission is to live for
“multicultural”.
He also introduced about Korean traditional culture with photos using PPT. The audience listened attentively and earnestly to his heart-felt speech.
The second speaker is Lange Nelson who came from Brazil to study when he was university student, married to Japanese and has been living in Tachikawa more than 20 years.
He introduced
various aspects of Brazil with photos. In Brazil, many ethnic groups live together, each group making his town. He
introduced “Portuguese town” and “Japanese town”. He also
talked about the life, educational system, nature, food , culture of Brazil.
The audience asked many
questions, such as “How can many ethnic groups live
together?” ”What do they do
during three weeks
holiday?” ”How do they drink mate?” ”Do Brazilian who do not
keep time and Japanese who are
strict to time can live together?”.
His speech was over one and half hour.
The audience gave their
impression such as “I spent
meaningful time, listening
their speech” “I enjoyed very much” in the questionnaire.
We shared wonderful time, making dialogue with two
speakers who had
background of multi-culture.
