1) U se a t r ansceiver t hat handles t he Signal Qualit y Er r or TEST (SQETEST) or a signal called a "hear t beat ", and set so t hat SQETEST is ON and t he hear t beat signal is valid.

2) For t he volt age for supplying t he t r ansceiver 's ext er nal power supply t o t he E71, consider t he volt age dr op at t he AUI cable and t he volt age dr op (0.8V) in t he E71. (Recommended supply volt age: 14.08VDC t o 15.75VDC)

(c) Consider t he following point s when connect ing t he E71 t o t he line t o r educe communicat ion t r ouble caused by higher har monics and noise. (Communicat ion t r ouble may be r educed by using t he following measur es.)

1) K eep t he cables as shor t as possible, as t hey ar e affect ed by higher har monics and noise. 2) Always gr ound t he AUI cable when connect ed wit h 10BASE5.

The AUI cable is a shielded cable, so r emove par t of t he sheat h as shown below, and gr ound t he exposed shield sect ion wit h as wide an ar ea as possible.

3) Always use a double shielded cable for t he coaxial cable when connect ed wit h 10BASE2. Gr ound t he out er shield.

The shield must be gr ounded wit hin 30cm fr om t he E71.

I f car e is not t aken when t r eat ing t he end of t he shield, t he effect obt ained wit h t he t r ansfer impedance of t he shield wir e will be lost .

I f a vinyl wir e is solder ed on t he shield sect ion of t he shielded cable as shown below, and t he end is t r eat ed for gr ounding, t he higher har monic impedance will incr ease and t he effect of t he shield will be lost .
