Volunteer Interpreter
Dispatch Service
This service is to dispatch volunteer interpreters to
administration organizations, welfare institutions and schools in
order to aid foreign residents with limited skill in Japanese.
Now, about 40 volunteers speaking 4 languages are registered.
Ikeda Multicultural Center in the City is in charge of this system.

Complete the volunteer interpreter dispatch application form and
bring it or send it by mail, facsimile or email to Ikeda Multicultural Center.

Our Center contacts volunteers regarding the nature of the request
and where/when the applicants and volunteers will meet. We also inform
the applicants of the names of the volunteers. If you do not receive any
communication from us within 2 or 3 days after applying, your application
form might not have been received so please contact us.

On the appointed date, the volunteers and applicants meet and the
requirements are carried out.
1 Request
Please request the volunteer interpreter one week before the requested date. If there is not enough
time, please contact us.
2 What languages are available?
Indonesian, English, Korean and Chinese.
3 What can volunteers help?
Procedures and inquiries at public organizations in Ikeda City, such as administration organizations,
welfare institutions and schools. Interpretation of Medical treatments and school classes etc. which
need professional interpretation skills are not available.
4 When can we dispatch volunteers?
In principle, we can dispatch volunteers for up to two hours from Monday to Friday between 8:45am
and 5:15pm (except holidays). If you require volunteers on weekends and holidays, please contact Ikeda
Multicultural Center.
5 Please note the following
・These are willing volunteers, but not professional interpreters.
・If any problems result from interpretations carried out by volunteers, they and Ikeda City cannot be
held responsible.
・If the requested activities are deemed inappropriate for interpretation by our volunteers, the request
for dispatch will be refused.
・If you are late for the appointment and do not inform us immediately, the request for dispatch will be
cancelled.
In this case we may ask you to reimburse their transportation costs.
・Please enquire at Ikeda Multicultural Center if you require the same interpreting services again. We
kindly ask that you do not ask the volunteer for his/her contact details, or to do other work such as
translation, etc. outside his/her working hours.
