Valentine’s day is coming up! Like
Christmas, Valentine’s day is a holiday
that is celebrated very differently in
Japan and the USA.
In Japan, women give chocolates to
men, and then on White Day in March,
the men return the favor with
marshmallows and cookies. In some
areas, if a man gives a woman
chocolate on White Day, it means he
isn’t interested in her!
In the US, both men and women give
gifts to their romantic partners on
Valentine’s Day, and although
chocolate is the most popular gift, it is
not the only one. Roses, stuffed
animals, and jewelry are popular gifts
for women. Wine, candy, and cards
can be given to anyone.
Many American couples also go out
to eat at nice restaurants.
