Report:

In this GCOE seminar, Dr. Kataoka introduced recent research topics of Space Weather modeling: for example, coronal mass ejections, and solar energetic particles. He showed modeling efforts to predict the space radiation environment quantitatively and comprehensively. An essential problem is the particle acceleration mechanisms in the dynamic magnetohydrodynamics. The example of alert for aircraft crew during high solar activity was also shown here.

In addition to the modeling study, Dr. Kataoka has made observations of aurora with high-speed auroral imaging system to understand the limit of wave-particle interactions. Examples of auroral images obtained from

observations in Alaska were shown.
